55 grain GMX

Postby Arky556 » Fri Feb 03, 2017 9:14 pm

Hi everyone I'm new to this forum and AR's as well. With said i am looking to find the lightest bullet i can fire with a 1:7 twist. I understand that heavier is best for a fast twist, because of bullet length. Has anyone used and Hornady 55 grain GMX, and if so what kind of results did you get as far as accuracy?

I haven't used the GMX but in general 55g shoots fine out of the 1:7. I have used the 50g TSX with exceptional accuracy and stabilization results out of a 10.5' and 14.7" barrel. In general the all copper bullets such as the GMX and TSX are longer since copper is lighter than lead. Which in turn helps to stabilize the lighter grained ones in a faster twist barrel. Are you looking for a good self defense round?

Thank you for the reply Stoneyarder, no im not looking for a self defense round. I'm more of a hunter and long range shooter. Im coming from a custom built bolt action to the AR family, trying to get good groups is something im going to have to get familiar with ot of an AR.

For hunting I would also look at the 62 and 70 grain TSX and Federal 62 Fusion MSR. All of them are good Bullets.

Damn, shooter, that's a mighty fine grouping! What optic were you using?
