Best Magazines for IC A5 (16.1in barrel)

Postby Adam1122 » Sun Apr 02, 2017 12:14 pm

Hi folks,

Since it's Sunday and LWRC is closed - is there a group consensus for what type Magpul Pmag Generation works best in the IC A5? I desperately need to get about 10 more mags and before I buy the Gen2 instead of Gen3 I'd like to make sure I go with what is receommended.

A Gen 2 (no window) is what came with my gun in the box NIB.

What say you guys. Gen 2 or 3?

Thanks!!!

Either should be fine, 2's are cheaper though.

Gen2 Pmags. DSG has the occasional sale of 10 for $89.

It shouldn't matter. If you need to have your mag catch replaced because it doesn't work with Gen 3 Pmags isn't now a good time to find out? But if your rifle is recent production it shouldn't matter at all.

Gen 3s have the reinforced feed lips, and are supposed to be less susceptible to cold weather malfunctions. I still have a bunch of Gen 2s that I use sometimes, but I run mostly Gen 3s. My A5 was manufactured with the longer mag catch, so I've had zero issues with the Gen 3s. Also, I like windows. Yeah, I know you're supposed to count your shots, but since I don't get the kind of training that our Tier 1 forces get, it is nice to glance at the side of your mag and know if it's time for a tac reload. There should be no issues using the M3's if you choose to go with them. I've also seen people using other products like Hexmags but I cannot personally attest to their performance and I am not sure that we have used these internally. I'm only assuming there has been no issue with these or many others as we have not seen them come through our service dept.

Either way, I would still recommend going with the M2 mags. Every rifle is tested with these and that is essentially what we use and stock with everything. They have been 100% functional with no problems whatsoever.

A couple years before I bought my first L'dub a friend of mine gave me a handful of used and abused Gen 2 PMags, fresh from the sandbox. I continued to abuse them. After about 7k rounds one of the brown ones snapped off a feed lip. Threw the couple brown ones away, gave the black ones to another friend. He's still running them, problem free.
