http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2014/02/20/breaking-news-colt-buying-lwrc-60-million/

A well placed source just told us that Colt* is buying LWRC for $60 million. The deal is supposed to close on 1 March. The Maryland company may relocate to Florida or Texas and the LWRC M6 Individual Carbine (M6IC) rifle will become a Colt branded product.

Richard Bernstein purchased LWRC in 2008 for $5 million. Bernstein, who is an owner and investor in a number of private businesses, has been involved in the defense industry for a while now. In 2004 he sold BAI Aerosystems to L-3 Communications (the manufacturer of EOTech Holographic sights). One of his companies was a supplier to LWRC before he purchased it.

Our friends at All Outdoors broke the news yesterday that LWRC was up for sale.

* I am not yet sure which Colt, Colt’s Manufacturing Company or Colt Defense LLC, is purchasing the company. I will endeavor to find out and update this post accordingly.

That would be the steal of the decade. Daren said they sold 50k guns. At 1k a piece that's a 50 million and we know most were much more plus services etc. I'll believe that 60 million number when I believe it. I'd bet 150-200 million would be closer but why is the bigger question...

No offense to RB but I hope the deal falls through. It seems like every time a big player buys out a company its only a matter of time before the product starts to go downhill and folks move on to something else. If this is true it is sad news...

LWRC is more than welcome to move down to Florida, but I'm not a fan of Colt.

Doubt that number is correct. Either way I would not like to see a change like this.
I was expecting to hear that L-dub was going to buy up that OSS company, after hearing announcements comments on that design.

If this is true, say goodbye to the LWRC we used to know. Quality control is inevitably going to drop. I've seen this same situation countless times. Big, stagnant company buys a small , innovational company known for high quality. Do I really need to explain what happens next? Quality control drops precipitously, cheaper materials are substituted for what was once high quality while prices stay the same. Eventually the big company takes the innovations from the bought out company and incorporates them into their previously stagnant product. End result ? Low quality firearms, but hey we have this new receiver architecture! We're good on new features for another 30 years!

Colt also has a bad reputation for NFA issues. Say goodbye to your LWRC NFA firearms. Overall, this is going to be horrible for the consumer. I know the LWRC guys had no say in this, so we can't really blame anyone. R.I.P. LWRC.

Edit: I know this is only rumor at this point, so I might be getting ahead of myself. I really, really, REALLY hope that this isn't true.

Agreed. I won't have anything to do with Colt. Have you ever tried dealing with Colt customer service? Just put the wreck on Gunbroker and take the loss. If Larue made piston guns, I wouldn't really be as sad about this, but LWRC is the only decent piston AR15 manufacturer.

Hopping around the web this news has really gone viral. Most of what I am reading is negative, based on the premise that if it is indeed Colt, most folks will not be interested in LWRC products anymore based on Colts reputation for lower quality rifles.
