Definately recommend gloves for shooting multiple mags in a short time. Mechanix work fine for me, but I don't do many multi-mag-dumps these days.

Does the piston's gas venting system near the FSB contribute to heat buildup since the MOE handguards are not nearly as ventilated as LWRCI's freefloaters?

Caporider, that may have something to do with it, but I think it has more to do with barrel heat radiating into the hand guard than hot gases building up. Either way, it gets warm. Wear gloves and use a sling so you don't have to hang on to the HG while not firing it.

This has got to be the most thorough review (along with great pictures) ever posted here. Thanks, RC. This little rifle should prove to be a success for NWT.

The skinny bbl has less thermal mass so the temp goes higher. Higher temp = greater radiation. An idea is to drill the handguard for more airflow, but that is kinda Catch 22 since you will feel more of the heat, that is being convected out. If you plan to abuse your SL, I recommend having a bottle of water you can pour on the bbl.

I went out and shot up my SL last weekend. Put about 200 rnds through it. I'm loving it. Much easier to handle and control vs. my 6.8 A2. I would have shot more rounds but I only have 2 mags at the moment and my wife got tired of loading them .

In old country there no hot barrels. Is so cold outside all hot is used to cook grool.

I purchased a M6-SL upper, partially based upon this review.

I am a little pissed off that it did not come with the enhanced bolt….

….am I missing something here, or was something swapped on me?

I'm sure a Milspec bolt will work just fine, but multiple reviews show the enhanced bolt provided with this upper. I was looking forward to it.

The enhanced bolt isn't provided with any of their weapons right now and hasn't been for a while. The enhanced bolt had some issues and LWRC took them back to the drawing board to try and fix them. In all reality it's overkill. The milspec bolt works exactly as it should.
