Look at almost every car commercial and you will likely hear the phrase "German Engineered" or "German Inspired". Maybe the new generation of Americans don't understand that after WWII, America "pitched in" to help rebuild Germany's economy and technology...the same way we did for the Japanese. The same way American "military weapons" are being found in the hands of natives in places such as Afghanistan and....wait for it...Mexico.

I'm of the opinion that their reputation for good "engineering" is well deserved, just on the basis of being around support pogues who worked in Germany. They all had an opinion of German craftsmanship and other such things that was probably very well earned.

Let's not forget they were a heavily industrialized and technically proficient nation BEFORE they lost their asses trying to take on the rest of the civilized world. Before WWII, the German/former Austrohungarian university system was the intellectual epicenter of the Western world.

The Germans take precision and quality pretty seriously from what I understand from one of my buddies who's one of these foreign exchange geeks, too. Rabid friggen hippies, but they work like crazy to get shite right.

He's also got this theory about them not having any guys with any build or masculinity to them, due to their losing all their hardest guys in the war. He's got lots of crazy ass ideas though, to include a perpetual motion machine, so maybe I'm laboring under a misapprehension.

Why pay a $1000 more for a weapon that isn't 100% American. From what I have seen the LWRCI rifles are better than the MR556. They pass all of the over the beach test, mud and sand test and everything else that you can try to fail a rifle with test and they still work. And best of all they are 100% made in the USA.

If you have the cash and you want one then why not?

Personally I love my M6A2. It's my duty rifle and I trust my life with it..

My brother had a HK MR556. Shot ok, but not even close to LWRC. The HK was like a toy! Cheap sights, bad stock (hard to adjust), and it had markings to read owners manual on the lower. I think DD makes them for HK?? The HK is a joke. $2k+! for a toy!!

No, it was the HK MR556. I was very surprised, I've had three of their pistols and love HK. I have a HK banner in the garage. About two years ago my bro got one of the HK SL8-6, and it was very nice. not an G36 though. He sold it, and I was so pissed!!!! I wanted that thing....

Let us not forget hk has continually dropped the ball with their civilian rifle market. Im a huge supporter of their pistols though. Own 3 and am in the market for my fourth. And if I can find a chopstix g36c i'd be all over it, but the mr556 is a neutered 416. Some nice features though like having a firing pin spring, and the ability to put on safe even if hammer is decocked. But the negatives outweigh the "positives"

I thought the intellectual epicenter was in D.C. ? Or was that an earthquake ?

Worth it? Thats all relative man. For example, your budget shooter who has his RIA 1911 and loves it will say a wilson or nighthawk isnt worth it. A wilson or nighthawk owner will say the RIA isnt worth it as well.

Personally, as far as handguns go i own only hk's. Then again, i may be a tad biased as striker fire is not my cup of tea.

I love a good ol german sig but since the americans got ahold of sig, they have gone down hill with QC issues. I have a friend who recently had to send in all 3 sigs he's purchased in the last 2 years for repair. Finally he said f this and went hk. Guess how many hk's he has had to send back? 0

I understand all systems all systems will fail. But i dont plan on running 100,000 rounds through my sidearms
