Hi All,

Did a little runnin' and gunnin' a few week ago with my A2 at the range, and was noticing that there is some muzzle rise after each shot (recoil was mild). Not too bad, but wondering what's out there to tame the rise for even faster followup shots.

So my questions are the following:

1. Are there any issues in using muzzle brakes with a piston gun? Increase the liklihood of malfunctions or any effect on reliability/accuracy?

2. What the best choice for a muzzle brake with the least muzzle rise/recoil? Don't care too much about either flash hiding or noise, and I am not planning on running a suppressor. I like the look of the Noveske KX3, but I heard it wasn't compatible with the A2 (not sure why). The Battlecomp brake also looks pretty impressive (http://battlecomp.com).

What is the barrel threading on the A2?

3. I have the 16 inch barrel, so my current A2 bird cage isn't pinned. Is a muzzle brake a pretty easy thing to swap, or does it require special tools/ equipment/ gunsmithing talent? If its not that hard, what tools are required?

Appreciate any thoughts you guys have.

Best,
P.

Look at Primary Weapons Systems series of breaks. They have several and if you search here Borebrush has a really good video of how they work on an LWRC!

I've had good performance from the Surefire MB556K.

1/2x28tpi, standard for ARs in 5.56.
PWS brakes are loud. Borebrush is anti-social so he digs that.
I have shot Tenacious-D's SBR with a Triple Tap. It's not quite as efficient as a FSC but also nowhere near as loud. A bit....pricey. OK..a lot.....
The KX3 doesn't 'brake' very well but it is a night heavy muzzleweight.

guess i'll chime in on this one. Im kinda anal retentive about keeping reality incorporated with my training. that being said; im obssesive about rapid follow up shots at varying distances; and engaging multiple targets with multiple shots, at CQB distance, and as fast and accurately as possible. As a byproduct this has made me obssesive about shooter technique, weapon balance, and any devices that can aid the shooter's control when Mr. Murphy is trying to kill them.
I've tested nearly every muzzle device on the market, including AAC, Surefire, PWS, and several off brand as well. So far I've settled with the knights 3T and the standard A2 birdcage as the most all round efficient. I've recently recieved a BCE BattleComp to try. My interest with the BC is primarily how it compares against the 3T. I'll post my findings asap. For those that are curious, I run a 10.5" M6A2 in 5.56. I will be using both 55gr and 65gr ammo.

I was very unhappy with the muzzle flip when I received my upper, it came with a vortex so there was really nothing doing any compensating.

I recently put on a Battle Comp. It has totally transformed the gun. There is still some straight back recoil, but being 5.56 its barely there. Muzzle flip is GONE.

Also there is no blast from it like with the other brake/comps out there. I wanted a KAC triple tap for a long time but wasn't going to pay 400+ $, I decided to wait for a TT "knock off". The battle comp fits the bill, 150$ is steep, but it sure ain"t 432$.

Apparently the biggest problem with the BattleComp is that it causes excessive ammo usage... :yeah:

I want to try a battlecomp pretty bad....prolly my next SBR build.

Right now my AAC 51tooth muzzle brake works pretty well, loud as hell without the silencer, but its even more effective and quiet with my M4-2000 mounted.
